Unicel C-9407 75 sq ft Replacement Filter Cartridge

The Unicel C-9407 is the 75 square foot replacement filter cartridge for the Pentair Clean and Clear CC75 and the Pentair Predator 75 sq ft cartridge filters. It measures 10-1/16 inches outside diameter by 16-1/8 inches long, and it replaces Pentair part number R173214.

Built to the rated area

The cartridge is made to meet the original manufacturer specification for the filters it goes into. That matters more than it sounds: a cartridge that is short of its rated square footage loads up faster, drives filter pressure up sooner and shortens the run between cleanings, even though it drops into the tank the same way.

When to replace rather than clean

A cartridge is a consumable. Once the pleats stay grey after a proper clean, the fabric feels soft or fuzzy, the end caps have separated or the pressure climbs back within days of cleaning, the element is finished. Chemical soaking buys some of that back on a dirty but sound cartridge, not on a worn one.

Cleaning it properly

Rinse from the top down with a fan spray and work the water between each pleat so the dirt lifts out. Do not use a pressure washer, because the concentrated jet cuts the media and opens a path for unfiltered water. Two cartridges rotated through the season lets each one dry fully between cleanings, which is the single easiest way to make them last.
