AquaStar Light Niche / Return Fitting, Fits Inside 2″ Pipe, Light Gray, 3703

The AquaStar 3703 is a combination light niche and return fitting in light gray. It is the fitting that lets a light socket land in a wall without the standard metal niche.

How it plumbs

The fitting works with either common pipe size. It slips over 1-1/2 in. pipe, and it slips inside 2 in. pipe, so it can be used on the plumbing already in the wall. The face carries a 1-1/2 in. FPT thread, which is what a 1-1/2 in. light socket screws into.

The water stop

A water stop is molded into the fitting rather than added as a separate collar. Its job is to interrupt the path water would otherwise take along the outside of the fitting through the shell, which is the leak that shows up years after a wall is poured.

Materials and finish

It is made from an engineered polymer, a UV resistant ABS. The light gray face is the other reason people specify it, since it reads as part of the wall rather than as the bright silver ring a standard niche leaves behind.
